Yesterday at the plenary, I moved a motion on the need to address the phenomenon of money ritual-motivated killings and create awareness on the Kwara State Prohibition of dealings in Human Parts Law and Implementation of the legal framework
Leading the debate, I emphasized that the scourge of ritual murders is spreading alarmingly in our society, with a disturbing twist of young people increasingly involved and young women, especially becoming targets, with reports of their abductions, and murders for ritual purposes.
This issue is not only of paramount importance to the safety and well-being of our citizens but also to the integrity of our social fabric.
The Kwara State prohibition of Dealing in Human Parts Law was established in response to the rising cases of ritual killings and other criminal practices linked to ritual-related cases. This Law is a progressive and vital step taken by the State Government to curb the dastard act and safeguard the lives of our people. The Law categorically prohibits any form of ritual practice, particularly those that involve the kidnapping, mutilation, or murder of individuals for spiritual or financial gain.
I note that it is not enough to simply pass Laws. We must equally promote awareness of these laws, ensure effective enforcement, and work with our communities to foster a culture of life and respect for human dignity.
One of the prayer of the motion is that we youth, especially need to be extra careful about social media friendship and we should always report any suspected conversations with strangers to the security agencies in order to avoid unfortunate incidences of ritual related and other forms of killings.
I therefore sympathize with the victim’s family, May Allah grant her Jannah Fridaus, and grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
