Previous Episode: Episode 1 – The Scholarship Letter
The next morning, Chisom sat in class, barely hearing the teacher’s voice. Her mind was still in the library. The flash drive. The file. The warning on the door.
“Snoopers end up missing.”
She hadn’t told anyone. Not even Dapo, the friendly head boy. Something about the whole thing told her this wasn’t gossip-level drama — this was serious. Dangerous.
During lunch, she lingered in the dining hall, her plate of jollof rice untouched. Across the room, students laughed and argued over football. But something else caught her attention — a mural on the wall near the entrance. It was a group photo of the school’s 2019 graduating class. Thirty students, smiling, dressed in white blazers.
She scanned their faces.
Then froze.
One of them looked familiar — not because she had met him, but because of the file. The name “Kunle A.” had been mentioned in one of the notes. In the picture, he stood slightly apart from the others. No smile.
She moved closer.
The plaque below read: St. James College Class of 2019 — Excellence in Character and Learning.
She pulled out her phone and quickly snapped a photo of the boy.
“Looking for someone?”
Chisom turned, startled. It was Dapo.
She smiled nervously. “Just admiring the mural.”
Dapo glanced at it and frowned slightly. “That’s Kunle. He used to be here. Brilliant guy. Disappeared before final exams.”
Her heart raced. “Disappeared?”
“Yeah,” he said quietly. “People said he ran away. But the teachers never gave us the full story. One day he was here… next day, gone. And all his stuff removed from the dorm.”
“Did the school call the police?”
Dapo gave her a long look. “That’s the thing. No investigation. No assembly announcement. Like he never existed.”
She felt a chill. “But he’s in the photo.”
Dapo shrugged. “Yeah, they forgot to remove that one.”
That evening, Chisom couldn’t focus on her assignments. She kept staring at the photo on her phone.
Who was Kunle A.? Why had his name appeared in the CONFESSIONS.txt file? What had he seen?
She opened the flash drive again, locking her dorm room door first. This time, she noticed a second file hidden in a folder named “REDACTED.”
kunle-last-entry.doc
She opened it.
“If I disappear, it wasn’t my choice. The truth is buried in this school — buried under brick and memory. The tunnel beneath Block C is still there. That’s where they kept the records. If anyone finds this, finish what I started.”
K.A.
Tunnel? Records?
She turned off the computer, heart pounding.
Just then, her phone buzzed.
A new email. No sender. Just a subject line:
“Stay out of what you don’t understand.”
And the message:
He thought he could expose us too.
Look where he ended up.
